Pesticide management

This program provides environmental protection by administering and enforcing Alberta's pesticide legislation. Pesticides in Alberta must be safely distributed, stored, used and disposed of. Alberta Environment conducts routine operation inspections and responds to public and industry complaints about improper pesticide management. Environmental monitoring data collected by the Department is reviewed, to provide early warning of potential pesticide problems which can be addressed through changes in management practices.

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL CODE OF PRACTISE FOR PESTICIDES

The Code of Practice is in place to provide clarification to ensure a common understanding of what is acceptable performance under the pesticide regulations.  Proposed amendments stem from a mandatory review of the Code of Practice that has been conducted through meetings with the application and distribution industry to identify and accommodate updates as they are required.  It is designed to be updated on a frequent basis to recognize changes in regulations, best practices, technology and available pesticide products.

All proposed amendments to the DRAFT Code are identified in red text for easy review. Please direct all inquiries, comments and concerns on the Code by Friday, December 18, 2009 (preferably in writing) to:
