Evergreen Centre for Resource Excellence & Innovation

Evergreen Centre for Resource Excellence & Innovation is a site for stakeholders to demonstrate and inspire the development of innovative resources technologies and best practices that contribute to sustainable economic growth and environmental sustainability.

The purpose of this centre is to:

  • Enhance communication and collaboration between industry, public, and government;
  • Enable industry to develop innovative resources solutions for solving environmental challenges by providing a location for developing, testing, researching, and showcasing best practices;
  • Provide a training facility for environmental best management practices; and,
  • Identify and recognize environmental leaders, while providing a platform to share best practices to inspire others to contribute to positive environmental innovations.

In partnership with the Oil Sands Leadership Initiative (OSLI), the Evergreen Centre for Resource Excellence and Innovation hosted a winter tree planting pilot between February and May 2011. The intent of the pilot was to determine whether or not black spruce seedlings would survive when planted in the winter, in wetland-like conditions. Success would hold great promise for revegetating wetlands disturbed by oil sands and other human activities. As of June 2011, OSLI has deemed the pilot to be successful, noting higher than 90 per cent seedling survival. For more information on this pilot, please click here.
