Pressure Indicators

Pressure indicators for land measure human activities that can affect or impact the land such as development, population growth or consumption. Socioeconomic, environmental and other monitoring databases are used to derive the pressure indicators below.

Per Capita Waste Disposal: this indicator illustrates Alberta's progress toward meeting a continuous reduction - on a per capita basis - of municipal solid waste, such as residential, commercial, construction and demolition and institutional waste disposed in municipal landfills.

Pesticide Use: pesticide sales is an indicator of the quantity of chemicals released to the environment and potential impacts on Alberta's land, water and air. The indicator is developed from pesticides sales data provided to Alberta Environment every five years. It includes herbicides, insecticides and fungicides that are used to control unwanted weeds, insects and diseases.
