Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program

Alberta requires industrial facilities that emit more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride) to submit annual reports on their greenhouse gas emissions.

Alberta Environment uses the information to identify emission sources.

Facilities report their emissions through an Electronic Data Reporting System. This information is provided to Alberta Environment and Environment Canada. The reporting system is administered by Environment Canada.

The Specified Gas Reporting Regulation describes who is required to report greenhouse gas emissions and how the information is collected.

The Specified Gas Reporting Standard describes what needs to be reported and how to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.
