Approximately 160 municipal water facilities, 189 municipal wastewater facilities, five approved landfills, 221 registered landfill facilities and three compost facilities serve the region. Industrial facilities: extensive refinery/manufacturing complexes (Edmonton area) and petrochemical/chemical complexes (Fort Saskatchewan area). Gas processing and power plants (primary and co-generation) throughout the region. Extensive mineable and in-situ oil sands resources (Fort McMurray and Cold Lake areas), agricultural land, hardwood/softwood timber, coal reserves, grazing land, water, wildlife, fish, recreational features, historical/archaeological resources.
