Reclamation and remediation
Alberta Environment has developed the Remediation Certificate Program to encourage the remediation of sites. The initial stage of the program will make remediation certificates available for petroleum storage tank (PST) sites. PST sites include underground and aboveground storage tank facilities, which contain or have contained gasoline, diesel, used engine oil, solvents, heating oil, aviation fuel, or similar petroleum product.
Alberta Environment works with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and municipalities to ensure land used for specified industrial activities ("specified land") is reclaimed.
To do this, Alberta Environment:
- issues approvals
- collects security
- conducts inspections
- issues reclamation certificates
- develops information documents
- undertakes compliance
- publishes reports and certificates.
