Alberta Environment plays a major role in regulating industrial land use, along with Sustainable Resource Development (forestry); Agriculture and Food (agriculture); Energy (oil, gas & coal); Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture (parks and protected areas) and Infrastructure and Transportation (road, rail and airports). Municipal governments also are extensively involved in development and land use issues, both in rural and urban areas.
